Overland Storage claims No.1 for disk backup

Mar 23, 2005: Overland Storage claims that it has shipped more disk-based backup and recovery solutions than any other vendor in the world after recently selling more than 1000 REO appliances.

The REO Series aims to provide disk-to-disk backup and recovery appliances that improves backup reliability, offers near-instant data recovery and significantly reduces backup administration time.

Christopher Calisi, the president and CEO of Overland Storage, said: "Our REO product line has been one of the most successful products in the company's history. We have nearly doubled REO unit sales on a sequential quarter basis over the last year.

"As data grows unhindered and business pressures on IT departments increase, backup and recovery remain a challenge. The REO delivers unparalleled reliability, instantaneous restores and shorter backup windows. Increasingly, customers are taking advantage of the efficiencies REO provides."

Steve Duplessie, the founder and senior analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group, added: "There are 30 million small-to-medium businesses and branch offices that suffer from a lack of IT resources, and the impact of not having sufficient data protection can be devastating.

"Today, affordable disk as virtual tape offers the dual benefit of accelerating backup and recovery times without introducing risk into the storage environment. This is where the REO excels."

He backs up REO's claims by saying that given its success, Overland has emerged as a clear leader in disk-based backup.
