Kodak strikes Net storage deal with Verizon
Imaging giant Kodak has entered into an agreement with mobile telecommunications provider Verizon Wireless that will enable Verizon customers to share and store their camera phone images on the Internet.
The service will provide extra storage in a secure environment for camera phone users. Currently, around 80 percent of all photos taken with digital cameras are never printed. Deleting images to create space to store new ones is partly responsible for this. Kodak hopes this service will remove the need to do this.
Verizon Wireless and Kodak plan to launch a series of marketing programs and new service offerings in the coming weeks. Verizon Wireless customers who have a Get It Now-capable camera phone will be able to download the Kodak Mobile Service application to their phone. Get It Now from Verizon Wireless is a virtual store with hundreds of applications available for download over the air without hooking up to a PC or visiting a Verizon Wireless Communications Store. The Kodak Mobile service offers camera phone users access to their digital photos and phone-captured video.
"Verizon Wireless is excited to work with the world's leading photography brand," said Jim Straight, Vice President of wireless data and multi-media services for Verizon Wireless. "Camera phones are increasing in popularity, and we're linking Kodak's premier mobile imaging service with our popular Get It Now service to help our customers enjoy and maximise the use of their camera phones."
