Mapping mobility through technology
A version of a mapping and design software is now available which enables Geopgraphic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping professionals to keep the maps in digital format throughout the design process, including on-site.
Autodesk has released the latest version of Autodesk Map 6 for GIS and mapping professionals, engineers, planners, and utility managers.
The design software and digital content company claims Map 6 features more powerful precision mapping and analysis tools. Autodesk Map 6 is based on AutoCAD 2002, but offered as a stand-alone mapping tool or as a part of the Autodesk Map Series. With a direct connection to Oracle Spatial, Autodesk Map 6 users can integrate multiple data types from many sources into maps, and extend the data from the back office to the front office.
Typical projects with Autocad 6 include mapping subdivisions, designing and analysing physical assets such as utility grids, printing and plotting legal map records, and performing many other mapping projects.
Users can keep their maps or design data in digital form throughout the design process. Engineers can access maps created with Autodesk Map 6 when they are at the work site, via the Internet or an intranet with a handheld device that uses Autodesk MapGuide and Autodesk OnSite View or Autodesk OnSite Enterprise.
”The wealth of data available to mapping professionals is only of value if they can effectively integrate it during the map creation process, and make it accessible to a wide variety of users and in a variety of formats,” said Andre Pravaz, regional director for South Asia and the Pacific for Autodesk.
”Autodesk Map 6 makes it easier for our customers to input data and classify it according to terminology and concepts that they’re familiar with, and to communicate more readily with other users.”
