Doc management from the ground up

Although many organisations recognise the importance of document management to their business, they are often still keen to see how others have tackled the issue for clues on what approach to take.

The sixth annual Document and Records Management user forum, from February 14-16 at the Millennium Hotel in Sydney, aims to offer strategies and practical examples of how to integrate these technologies within a business to protect information assets.

The conference will bring together 20 case studies from both the public and the private sector, and includes such organisations as BHP IT, Victoria's Health Super, the Family Court of Australia, State Forests of NSW and BP Amaco.

These practical examples will be complemented by a look at the legislative and infrastructure environments evolving around electronic document management (EDM).

A vendor panel will also explore the changing business trends involving the use of records.

Attendees will be able to apply their knowledge of EDM issues through two workshops featured as part of the conference. The pre-conference workshop on February 14 will take users through developing and integrating a document management system, as well as reviewing their system design and managing change caused through an implementation.

The post-conference workshop on February 16 focuses on identifying methodologies and approaches toward developing a single entry point to the user's database. The workshop will also look at how to start adopting standard rules for the EDM system to manage data added to it, and how to develop a scaleable solution that will continue to suit business needs.
