FUJITSU'S NEW DUPLEX SCANNER

Fujitsu has unveiled its new mid-range A3 scanner - the M3097. It scans both in simplex and in duplex mode and using either automatic document feed or flat-bed scanning.

The scanner incorporates Fujitsu's Imaging Processing Circuit 2D, which allows for single-pass scanning with both text and photos, and automatic contrast for text lines that vary in thickness.

The M3097 processes documents at up to 40 ppm in simplex, or 80 images per minute in duplex (200dpi resolution and A4 landscape format). It also includes full document handling flexibility with a 100-page automatic document feeder.

With an onboard 16MB memory, the M3097 can scan documents at up to 600dpi resolution.

The scanner is sold in two basic models: the M3097DE, which offers video interface support for simple connections to Kofax, Xionics and Seaport imaging products; and the M3097DG, which is equipped with an industry-standard SCSI-2 interface.

Available for $12,349 for the M3097DE model and for $12,924 for the M3097DG model (ex tax), the scanners will be launched this month in conjunction with ACA Pacific. For more information contact Fujitsu on (02) 9776 4555 or visit www.fujitsu.com.au.

COLOUR SCANNER FOR ETHERNET

Bell & Howell has released what it claims is the first real time network colour scanner, and is compatible with any Ethernet network.

The ColourNet CS 2000S is designed to scan 24-bit colour, greyscale and mono documents. Users can fax, email, print and archive scanned documents, while the scanner's 32-bit RISC processor gives it the power to process these images in real time from the scanner's touch screen LCD control panel or from their workstation.

Bell & Howell has also included a Virtual Archive Library (VAL), which allows the sharing of scanned into the documents. Housed on a dedicated server, the VAL acts as an electronic filing cabinet. Users can access and view documents stored in the library via 'in boxes' on their desktop.

The ColourNet CS 2000S offers a throughput of 27 ppm black and white and seven ppm colour with its combination flatbed with 50-sheet automatic document feeder.

Bell and Howell has also announced the availability of TWAIN 1.7 device drivers for its Copiscan line of scanners equipped with SCSI interfaces.

These models include the Copiscan II 3338A, the Copiscan II 6338, the Copiscan 4040D and the Copiscan 8000 series.

The TWAIN 1.7 device drivers also allow duplex scanning, user interface issues and access of extended image attributes, such as bar code recognition, imprinter control and command over Bell & Howell's exclusive ACE image enhancement.

COMPACT CANON FLATBED SCANNER

Canon has released a compact 600x1200 dpi flatbed scanner complete with software for image editing, colour adjustment, photo imaging and optical character recognition (OCR).

The CanoScan FB610, which runs on Windows 95 and NT, has a footprint slightly larger than A4 and supports two operation levels with tutorial programs to cater better for different user skills.

The scanner incorporates a plug-in parallel port interface, and connects in-line with a printer. Other features include 30 bit input, for more detailed scanning and interpolated resolutions up to 9600 dpi.

The CanoScan FB610 retails for $399. For information, call (02) 9805 2000.

PHOTOMATRIX NOW AT MICROSYSTEMS

As the new Australian distributor for Photomatrix scanners, Microsystems has announced the Vision Series high-speed 9000 series Duplex Scanners for Imaging Bureaus and similar 100+ppm applications.

These units combine high speed and precision with reliability for use where multi-shift endurance is as vital as world-class 400dpi imaging quality and consistency.

Recently used for the Telstra share offer, the Photmatrix units feature flatbed vacuum-transport technology which can auto-feed a 1000-sheet stack of mixed papers/document types.

The units can also handle single-pass throughput speed-scans front and back of each sheet simultaneously, including barcodes. For info: (02) 9682 6111.
