Workshops to give insight into KM, workflow and DM

IIM98 will feature three industry workshop focusing on workflow, document management and knowledge management.

The times, topics and days of workshops are as follows:

WORKSHOP 1: WORKFLOW TODAY

Sunday September 6 1998

11.00am-6.00pm

This is the first ever workflow workshop run by AIIM International's Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) in Oceania and is designed to give participants a valuable insight into what is happening in this rapidly developing and changing marketplace.

This major IIM initiative will enable participants to gain an in-depth understanding of the real business issues relating to the Internet, intranets and the World Wide Web and workflow, as well as other interoperability standards.

The subject will be approached from a business, as well as a technical perspectiveand a range of issues from examining the business reasons for investing in workflow, through to the opportunities presented by it, the challenge of ensuring a solid return on investment, and the legal implications of its use will be discussed.

The keynote address will be delivered by Kian Saneii, vice president-worldwide marketing, Information Management Associates. His presentation will be on "Putting technology to work for your customers".

WORKSHOP 2: NEW MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

New generation document management systems not only enable business to secure assets and protect information but also provide an essential tool for acquisition, retention, storage, distribution and use of knowledge. This workshop will examine the current technology innovations with document management, and will review a number of leading products.

WORKSHOP 3: KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT: ITS BENEFITS AND PROBLEMS

Presenter: Dr Frada Burstein, director of research training, School of Information Management and Systems, Monash University

This workshop will present multiple views on knowledge management, and facilitate discussions on the benefits and problems of knowledge management from the perspectives of the researcher and the practitioner. Dr Burstein will discuss possible organisational implications of knowledge management and emphasise the importance or organising, managing and empowering the enterprise from the introduction of knowledge management processes to contribute their full potential.
