Cisco Announce Role-Based Architecture

November 6, 2007: Enterprise-wide security just got a whole lot raunchier with Cisco’s announcement of Role-Based Architecture which aims to advance enterprise-wide security and compliance.

Cisco has announced its Trusted Security architecture that integrates identity and role-based security methods that can be deployed across an entire enterprise network. The architecture aims to address compliance requirements and secure the operations of an increasingly mobile business workforce that often require access throughout the globe.

"Customers are demanding a highly secure way to expand their businesses and compliance policies," said Jayshree Ullal, senior vice president of the Data Center, Switching and Security Technology Group at Cisco.

Compliance is quickly becoming a fearsome thing, particularly on Australian shores where many organisations are seeing what has transpired in the US and are hoping to get in early before the storm arrives. Whether or not this will translate into success for more enterprise-wide solutions like Cisco’s remains to be seen, though it’s a definite possibility.

"Understanding which users do what and where, on networks and on applications, is a key component of the compliance strategy of virtually every enterprise. Doing so requires implementing a security architecture based on the roles and identities of users.” Andreas M. Antonopoulos, senior vice president and founding partner of Nemertes Research.
