Hitachi expands CRT family

Hitachi has announced several new additions to its Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) display family, with 17 and 19 inch models targeted at entry level to professional users.

The CM-610 is aimed at both home and office applications that involve basic desktop publishing, word processing or spreadsheets.

The display has a maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and a refresh rate of 85Hz, and includes an on screen set up and 15 computer-controlled image quality settings. It retails for $645.

The 17 inch CM-643 has a resolution of 1280 x 1024 at 85Hz refresh rate, or 1600 x 1200 at 75Hz refresh rate. With this high resolution, and its horizontal mask pitch of 0.21mm, the monitor suits CAD, desktop publishing and multimedia work.

Hitachi has also released two other 17 inch displays, the CM-640 for home or small business applications, and the CM-650, a Short Length Tube monitor for users who want a CRT but have limited desktop space.

In the larger 19 inch range, Hitachi has released two models that are both targeted at office and professional users. Both incorporate Hitachi's Super Flat and Super High Contrast Invar shadow mask CRT technology, and use an EA-MDF gun to improve focus and image clarity.

The CM766 has a dot pitch of 0.21mm, a 96Hz horizontal frequency and suits basic graphics applications. It is also able to support a 1600 x 1280 graphics card with a 75Hz refresh rate.

Aimed at higher-end graphics users, the CM769 has a horizontal frequency of 115Hz and a resolution of 1600 x 1280 at 85Hz refresh rate. It has a USB bus option and the ability to switch between two input sources.

The CM766 retails for $1195 and the CM769 for $1595.
