AIIA Elects New Chairman

By Greg McNevin

October 24, 2007: The Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) has announced that it has elected a new chairman at its 29th Annual General Meeting last Thursday.

John Grant, the Managing Director of Data#3, has been is now Chairman of the peak body for Australia’s ICT industry, replacing former Chairman Peter Kazacos who now moves to the position of Immediate Past Chair following his two years at the helm.

Grant says he is “very enthusiastic” about his appointment, claiming that there are currently abundant opportunities in the ICT industry.

“AIIA has long been an active and vocal champion of the ICT industry and to be elected Chairman of its National Board is a great honour," said Grant. “Issues like broadband will play a crucial role in the upcoming Federal Election. Beyond that, AIIA believes that ICT deserves more recognition at all levels of politics.”

Grant was a founding director of Data#3 way back in 1984, and has since taken over as CEO of the firm. He has previously served as a member of advisory boards such as the Federal Government's ICT Advisory Board and the Queensland Government's Ministerial Advisory Group.

AIIA CEO Sherlye Moon says she is delighted to welcome Grant to his new position, echoing the view that this is a crucial time for ICT to play its part in the future of Australia.

“John is and has been a fantastic advocate for the ICT industry for decades. He has the knowledge, experience and expertise you need to succeed in such a competitive industry and is a role model for other SME enterprises,” said Moon.

“ICT will be the key to helping solve Australia's pressing issues such as the environment and national skills shortage and John will play a vital role in the future success of the association, its members and ICT industry.”

Other new appointments to AIIA's Board of Directors include Lou Martini of ISA Technologies and Rod Vawdrey of Fujitsu Australia and New Zealand.
