Kofax announces Mobile Capture

A new Mobile Capture solution launched by Kofax takes content captured on smartphones and tablet computers and passes it directly into Kofax workflows to enterprise applications and repositories.

The company says it has been developed in response to requests from users wanting to leverage mobile devices to initiate business processes at “the point of origination” where customer facing engagements actually occur.

“Our customers have been anxious to integrate smartphones and tablet computers into their existing Kofax solutions, and the interest from our early adopters has been overwhelming and very positive,” said Anthony Macciola, Chief Technology Officer at Kofax.

A recent report entitled “A Study of the Mobile Capture Market in the United States” published by Harvey Spencer Associates, a leading industry analyst firm, states that the market for mobile capture software will grow from its nascent origins today to more than $US1.3 billion by 2015, driven by new applications that use mobile devices to create, capture and consume content.

“As the work force becomes increasingly mobile, enterprises are implementing processes that leverage mobile devices to improve customer service and worker productivity,” said Harvey Spencer, Principal at Harvey Spencer Associates.

“A mobile user can initiate, process and complete an entire transaction in a single visit or interaction, whereas multiple interactions were previously required. This improves customer loyalty, increases sales team productivity and reduces the time required to support each transaction.”

Kofax Mobile Capture will support Apple iPhones and iPad devices and Android phones and tablet computers. It is comprised of two components: Kofax Mobile Applications and Kofax Mobile Services.

Kofax Mobile Applications run directly on the mobile device to capture images of documents, photographs, audio, video and data. Once captured, the content is delivered to Kofax Mobile Services, a cloud based service hosted on Microsoft Azure.

Kofax Mobile Services enhances images and delivers the content to the appropriate downstream Kofax processes. This allows Kofax customers to develop and deploy custom mobile capture applications while leveraging their existing Kofax capabilities with no change to their capture enabled BPM infrastructure.

Kofax Mobile Services leverages the Company’s VRS software for image enhancement in document scanning applications, a challenge when capturing via Smartphones and tablet computers.

Potential use cases for Kofax Mobile Capture include: Customer on boarding processes at the customer’s home or office where, for example, a lender’s employee could capture the documentation necessary to assemble a complete mortgage application, accelerating approvals and providing a higher level of customer service.

Similarly, insurance adjustors could use Kofax Mobile Capture in the field to capture photographs of damage, images of related documents and the other data required to initiate the claims process, reducing delays and accelerating payments to policy holders. Truck and delivery drivers could capture proof of delivery at customer locations and immediately submit that evidence to downstream tracking and billing processes. In each example, process latency is reduced, exceptions are resolved faster and customer service is improved.
