Epson shoots for mobile scanning

Epson has launched a lightweight portable colour document scanner with one-touch scan-to-cloud capabilities and built-in TWAIN interface, the WorkForce DS-30.

Powered from a USB connection it works directly from a laptop, produces editable text and searchable PDFs; and scans images at up to 600 dpi. The 325 gram WorkForce DS-30 sells for $A199.

Epson's new Document Capture Pro software and a customisable one-touch button allow scanning directly to email, FTP, or a specific directory folder, as well as directly to popular cloud services such as SharePoint, Google Docs and Evernote. Up to 30 jobs can be registered for a batch scan, separation, save and transfer, again saving time.

The WorkForce DS-30 scans a variety of paper sizes and types: from documents in A8 to A4 and B5 and other custom sizes, business cards (including embossed card) and rigid ID/licence cards.

Advanced image correction tools, such as removing punch holes, auto-sizing and enhancing text quality or correcting image skew are included in the Document Capture Pro software.

Inclusion of the TWAIN driver, the industry standard for scanning software, allows the use of customisable software for integration into third-party Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software in virtually any vertical market, such as real estate, healthcare and logistics.

Often included only with high-end scanners, the TWAIN interface is standard on Epson's entire line of document scanners.

In addition to Epson Document Capture Pro, the WorkForce DS-30 also includes ABBYY FineReader, NewSoft BizCard and NewSoft PageManager for Mac.

It is available from Officeworks, Harvey Norman and and at www.shoponline.epson.com.au.
