Government records and archive authorities around the country have developed a range of policies, standards and guidelines to help organisations better manage the capture of digital information. However, there appear to be some major structural obstacles preventing effective digital archive appraisal and permanent records transfer. 

Lexmark International has acquired PACSGEAR, a provider of connectivity solutions for healthcare providers to capture, manage and share medical images and related documents and integrate them with existing picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) and electronic medical records (EMR) systems. Lexmark paid a cash purchase price of approximately $US54 million.

A not-so-hidden secret in information management is the out-of-control growth of unstructured data in corporate life. Millions of data files are stashed in loosely tracked and managed sources such as email, social media sites, and SharePoint, and the contents of these massive repositories are often poorly managed and understood. Unstructured data accounts for 90 percent of the digital universe, according to IDC, which estimates that these files are growing at a rate of 50 percent per year.

A series of issues papers suggesting ways that the the record-keeping profession can better deal with the volume, fragility and complexity of contemporary archival records has been published by the Recordkeeping Roundtable.

Melbourne-based software developer Nintex Group has sold its information technology consulting services business, OBS, to Empired Limited for $A15 million.

Basware has partnered with MasterCard to launch a new electronic payment solution that it says ensures suppliers are paid fast upon invoice approval, while extending payment terms for buyers. 

IBM has acquired Daeja Image Systems, a provider of software that makes it easier for business and IT professionals to view large documents and images. Daeja is a privately held software company with headquarters in Milton Keynes, UK. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Worldwide shipments of production printers grew 15% year over year to 13,000 units (printers and MFPs) in the second quarter of 2013, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC)Worldwide Quarterly Production Printer Tracker. Despite the increase in shipment volume, shipment value declined -4% year over year to more than $500 million for the same time period.
