Tacit to speed up email attachment access
Tacit Networks has bought the intellectual property of Attachstor so that it can provide better access to email attachments through its WAN-based file sharing software.
Email attachments account for over 90 percent of total email storage, but AttachStor's technology provides solutions for enterprises that face problems with storing and gaining access to these email attachments.
Attachstor uses technology that cuts down on the space used by email attachments, by searching for redundant copies , stripping them from emails and then storing them separately. Emails are then linked to those attachments via an embedded link, which cuts down on space taken up emails.
Its system stores one single-copy of the email attachment throughout the network, which increases the performance of email attachments whilst lowering the cost of ownership of email systems by 25 to 40 percent annually.
Tacit uses a WAN (wide area network) to link remote offices via one or more servers where files are shared centrally at local network speeds. Combined with AttachStor's email attachment solution, Tacit aims to provide easy access to important email attachments quickly over long distances via a shared server.

Tacit is aims to have the AttachStor technology fully integrated with its WAN file sharing technology by 2005.
