An American exhibition is the ideal place to see the future of document management, according to Mario Veronese, HPA's National Manager of information services. Xplor 2002 kicks off at the end of October in California, and Mr Veronese says the conference and exhibition is an ideal opportunity to see new technology, methods and learn where the sector is going.

Taking place between the 27th and 30th of October, Xplor will feature 100 document management vendors and their senior executives. Amongst the companies attending will be Adobe, Hewlett-Packard Commercial Printing, IBM Printing Systems, Océ and Xerox. All have promised to give an insight into their strategies for electronic document management. Alongside the trade exhibitions will be presentations on content management and digital documents from the likes of the Gartner Group.

Mr Veronese said both Australian vendors and end users should consider going over to the exhibition. PrintSoft is one local vendor that will be attending; Mr Veronese said they use the event to gauge perceptions and identify new trends.

"The local marketplace is very competitive and innovative and a lot of businesses use Xplor as a way to gauge where they are," Mr Veronese said. Adding, "Australia is well represented, if you find something there and bring it back first, you will have a competitive advantage," something he said HPA had managed to achieve at previous Xplor events.

With more than 60,000 square feet of exhibit space already reserved by document technology companies, the show floor will host nearly 100 exhibitors that represent every component of an EDS solution. Many of these exhibiting companies will be offering new solutions and making important company announcements. For end users, this means gaining knowledge and competitive advantage to bring back to their own organisations.

"If you are planning on implementing a solution in the future this will give you ideas about where to focus on and who to talk to," Mr Veronese said.

Amongst the conference discussions will be presentations on disaster recovery, digital printing and publishing, 1:1 marketing, e-business, customer relationship management, mailing, emerging technologies, and document technology best practices..
