Australian businesses lose over $US55B from data loss annually

EMC Corporation has announced the Australian findings of a new global data protection study that reveals, data loss and downtime cost Australian enterprises US$55 billion in the last twelve months, compared to the average of US$34 billion across the Asia-Pacific and Japan region. Global data loss is up by 400% since 2012 while, surprisingly, 78% of Australian organisations are still not fully confident in their ability to recover after a disruption.  

Funding boost to quicken PCEHR Private Hospital uptake

The National E-Health Transition Authority (NEHTA) is offer funding from a pool of up to $500,000 (ex GST) to Australian private hospital groups to begin integrating their systems with the Personally Controlled Electronic Health record (PCEHR). 

Microsoft acquires mobile email startup

Microsoft has acquired Acompli, a developer working on bringing the functionality of Outlook on the desktop PC to mobiles. Acompli reportedly makes it easier to deal with email attachments on your phone, and also puts contacts and calendar into the same app, and handles attachments from Dropbox, Google Drive, and Microsoft OneDrive.

New IIM National President

After six years Vladimir Videnovic has stepped down as National President of  The Institute for Information Management (IIM). The new National President is Dr Janine Douglas, a consultant who is currently President of the Western Australian Branch of IIM, and has served on the IIM Board as a Regional Director for two years.
