Google to Challenge Microsoft Office?

March 13, 2006: Google has caused a few ripples through its purchase of Upstartle, developer of the online word processor Writely, and prompted calls from some analysts that Microsoft Office’s days are numbered.

However, considering the software only recently gained very low end abilities such as: "delete from trash" the giant-slaying calls could prove a tad premature.

Google has paid an undisclosed sum for the web-based software which is still in beta. Writely helps create documents, blog posts and web pages through its online portal, and allows editing and collaboration by many authors.
