Iron Mountain Debuts Online Records Centre

By Greg McNevin

January 15, 2008: Iron Mountain is promising greater access to essential documents with the release of its new Digital Record Center, and IBM-powered data repository that it says securely stores physical records while enabling rapid access to digital copies.

The firm says its solution couples hosted storage with easy access to scanned images, PDFs and other digital files. Documents can be accessed via any web browser, and can be flicked through, zoomed, downloaded and printed depending on access privileges.

The offering is powered by IBM's Content Manager OnDemand software, and has been designed for companies dealing with large volumes of active documents. Whether mortgage loans, credit files, personnel records, sales contracts and credit card receipts, Iron Mountain says that by making digital copies of these documents readily available, businesses can better enable employees to use and share information, regardless of format or location, while maintaining key records.

Overall Iron Mountain claims the system helps organisations scan and store their physical records, providing better control, and a more complete solution for managing information lifecycles.

“We've long helped our clients manage their physical records and convert these paper documents to digital files; now, with the Digital Record Center for Images, we're offering them a cost-effective repository for accessing those digital files,” said Chris Churchill, vice president of document management solutions at Iron Mountain.

“By integrating these three services, we offer customers a comprehensive, single-source solution for using their information and ensuring its security.”
