KYOcapture delivers downunder

Kyocera is introducing new middleware capabilities for its Multifunctional Products (MFPs) that will provide the capacity to deliver documents to multiple destinations, including e-mail addresses, fax, FTP destinations, network folders and document management systems

KYOcapture is powered by Autostore Workflow from Notable Solutions, Inc. (NSi), a server-based application designed to automate the capture, processing and distribution of documents and their content .

Available in the US for the past 8 months and now being launched in Australia and New Zealand, KYOcapture provides the ability to setup dedicated workflow for business applications such as accounts payable automation and distributed capture.

The base package for OCR is included with KYOcapture. However this can be upgraded to a more robust OCR package that includes Zone OCR, allowing single or multiple zones to be defined on a document.

For example: if invoices that are being scanned always have an invoice number in the top right hand corner the Zone OCR can be set-up to read and extract this data from all scanned invoices. The extracted data is then used to index the scanned documents.

KYOcapture's Optical Character Recognition (OCR) component, powered by ABBYY FineReader, will read the content of the document image and automatically convert it to a searchable PDF file.

It offers processing capabilities such as de-speckling, de-skewing, and reading barcodes, then conversion into a variety of formats, such as text searchable PDFs or MS Office Documents.

Barcode Recognition speeds document scanning by allowing metadata to be extracted when documents are being scanned, eliminating the need for manual entry of index fields at the control panel of the Kyocera MFP.

The intelligence built into this processing component also enables KYOcapture to recognise multiple barcodes within one stack of documents being scanned and split them into multiple files. The KYOcapture Barcode Component supports linear and 2D (PDF417) barcodes.

Documents can be routed to fax, email, network folders, PCs, as well as document management systems (DMS). At present there are connectors for Exchange, Lotus Notes, Documentum, Interwoven, SharePoint and LaserFiche and many more.

Mark Vella (Product Marketing Manager) for Kyocera Mita Australia, said that from 2010 KyoCapture would be offered as an embedded solution.

"Most document management systems have the ability to setup a folder watch, so you can simply scan to a folder or email address to input into the DMS. KyoCapture takes it further by allowing additional metadata to be added when the document is scanned.

KYOcapture 5.0 is being launched locally in February 2010. It will offer a new, customisable user interface and improved bi-directional search functionality to easily retrieve indexing data from databases and browse folder across the network.
